Now accepting applications for

the academic year 2025/26.

Living in Ely

More than just a university residence, Ely offers students a ‘home away from home’ where a spirit of family is fostered. We have a limited number of places for students to come and live in Ely during the academic year. The team at Ely and students together organise various activities throughout the year designed to complement a student’s studies and enhance your time in college and to help students develop important life skills and to see their future professional life as a way to serve society.

Admissions

Students who are thinking about the possibility of applying to stay in Ely are welcome to visit the centre by arrangement (with their family if they would like). In advance we ask you to fill out an application form and if we think it might be a good fit we invite you to an interview. After an interview you will be shown around Ely and introduced to other residents so you can see if it is a good fit for you.

Facilities

Ely combines Georgian refinement with modern facilities. We have 14 single-study bedrooms, a state of the art study room, WiFi, a library, two conference rooms, two sitting rooms, a dining room, and a Chapel. We also offer secure bike facilities. Being an old Georgian house, it is full of stairs, so you’ll get lots of exercise going up and down them!

Fees

Fees are €8,700 for a 30 week academic year, paid in two instalments (€4,350 in September and €4,350 in January). This includes a single room, bed linen, all meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), personal laundry, all utilities, wifi and use of the study facilities, sitting rooms and conference room. Residents staying for longer, either side of the 30 week period, need to pay a weekly rate of €300 for any extra weeks or part thereof (there is no day-rate).

Who may apply?

We welcomes students from all social, ethnic and religious backgrounds.

We do, however, have some basic requirements.

Most important is that you want to contribute to the homely atmosphere we foster in Ely and have a keen desire to learn and grow as a person as well as a student. Staying in Ely is an opportunity to engage in the world of ideas, to go beyond your course of study in college, to deepen your intellectural, cultural, spiritual and human formation as a person.

We expect all residents to participate in household chores, including cleaning, cooking, small repairs. You are also expected to take good care of your bedroom and shared areas of the house, keeping it clean, tidy and pleasant for the household team that help run the centre.

We are a male only residence (although we have two sister residences for women - Glenard and Rathmore) and we only admit students between the ages of 18 and 26. We can offer limited places for language school students during the summer months (May, June and July).

Ely is not for students who are keen to develop and grow. It is not for those looking for a bed or good food. We provide both of those of course, but so do lots of other options. So if that is all you need you may find better options elsewhere.
