Faith Seeking Understanding

This has been one of the more successful courses organised in Ely in recent years. It is for young professionals who want to know more about their faith. In fact, the idea for the course came initially from young graduates who felt that while they had a good grasp of the teaching of the Catholic Church with regard to some moral issues that they felt ill-equipped to answer questions about many other aspects of their faith. In response, we organised a theology course to try and provide a systematic and structured understanding of Catholic teaching. The classes take place on Monday evenings during term in Ely.

Some of the topics being covered in these classes are:

  • God Exists: Can the secular world survive without God?

  • Revelation: Understanding Scripture

  • Creation & Sacred Scripture

  • The coming of Christ - God & Man

  • Priesthood and women priests?

  • Faith versus reason.

The classes were usually quite lively and interactive. There is ample scope for asking questions which are often controversial and searching but are usually fielded well by the main lecturer for the course, Fr. Pat Gorevan Ph.D
