For many
years, Ely has provided volunteers for CityWise, an educational project for young people.

Citywise seeks to tackle educational disadvantage in some of the poorer areas of South Dublin's suburbs (Tallaght) by reaching youth who despite their academic ability and potential, might be inclined to abandon formal education at too early a stage in their development. In particular, it encourages able young people to consider third level education.

All Citywise programmes, through a mixture of academic, sporting and character development, seek to enthuse young people in their schooling, help them develop leadership qualities, and raise their educational sights.

The key to Citywise lies in harnessing the talents of the educationally advantaged to help the educationally disadvantaged. Over the last ten years, dozens of university students have generously given of their time to helping Citywise, through their contact with Ely.

Much of this help has been during the summer holidays on month-long programmes, or as tutors in after-school programmes or programmes for young kids who are on probation or who have special difficulty attending school. If you would like to find out more about Citywise or are willing to work as a helper or volunteer for some activities, please contact Ely.
